the Mini 1000 HL replaced the mini 1000 Super in October 1980.

in April 1982 it was renamed the mini 1000 HLE (along with mini city E) because of its higher final drive ratio.

in September 1982 it was re-designated as the mini Mayfair :proud:

I've got a Mini HL registered in March 1982, I didn't realise it was the forerunner to the Mayfair :proud:

who cares >_<

no seriously, i cant find any direct reference to what it stands for but if you think about it logically its probably something like "High luxury" as it was the top model in the range at the time

EDIT: apparently it actually stands for Mini Harold Loyd :) (see below :dontgetit: )

I always thought it stood for 'High Luxury', but I was corrected by a few Mini HL Estate (previously Clubman) owners on Minifinity.

So the 'HL' actually stands for 'High Line'.

>_<

Well you can call it what you like, but British Leyland (or was it Leyland Cars or BL or Austin Morris or Austin Rover etc by then?) named them 'High Line'

:) :dontgetit:

Probably a variation of 'High Luxury' LOL.

Seriously though, Ford were using names like GL and GLX which stood for 'Grand Luxury' and 'Grand Luxury Extra' (I think?). so it's only natural BL wanted to be different?

I thought the high line was to do with where it was produced in the factory, however I was very very drunk at the time.

Isn't 'High Line' a fashion saying, as in 'High Line' clothing or something?
