With reference to the marks, I thought that the roofs were changed at some point from smooth to ribbed, or am I making this up? or did they still just call this a mark 1?
Any one got some photos of this rear seat fitted?

all vans and pick-ups were Mk1 mini variants ....
No they weren't.
Although they may have retained external hinges, sliding windows and pressed grille front panel throughout their production run they incorporated the changes to the saloon range so the Mk 2 Van and Pick-Up have a different switch panel, indicator stalk, badges etc to the Mk 1, and later they got the rod change gearbox, rubber mounted subframes etc etc.
Anyone who has a 1980 Van will tell you it is a lot different to a 1960 version.

OK, I'm willing to except that this is largely based on opinion
my opinion is.... the mini van and pick up dont actually have an official Mk at all, in the sense that a Mk1 mini was just a mini until the Mk2 came out.
they are however a variant of the Mk1 mini shell. yes they did receive a lot of the updates that the saloon had but they did not include the main distinguishing features that determine the changes of Mk, a different switch panel, for example, is not reason to change the Mk !!!
in contrast, the elf and hornet do have different Mks and the change points are different to the normal saloon

a different switch panel, for example, is not reason to change the Mk !!!
That was just to give an example of the fittings that changed.
One of the main internal differences between Mk 1 and 2 shells whether saloon, Van or whatever is the larger aperture in the lower dash rail - and this is why Mk 2 onwards Vans and Pick Ups have the larger switch panel nailed on the outside of the dash rail because they didn't get the padded vinyl covered foam item.
Badging apart, it may be less obvious than with a saloon what Mk a Van or Pick-Up is because of its poverty spec but Van and Pick -Up aficionados use the same change points as the saloons when determining Mk.
Meanwhile back to the question about rear seat conversions - this is from the excellent Mk 1 Performance Conversions site http://mk1-performan...nversions.co.uk
It does require cutting of the rear load floor which is unlikely to enhance the value of a Van these days.
