How hard it will be to get the car through the emissions test afterwards would be a bigger worry.

I thought about changing Git over to carb, I was quoted 'about £500' the garage did not want to do it.
Other than the wiring, you'll have to change the fuel tank and there's the expense of the new carbs.
Didn't bother in the end, Gits engine was built around the injection system and runs great.... why *male chicken* it up?

right then, well I'm not an expert on fuel systems by any means but what i do know is that i get irritated when things get blown up into some great big myth when they are really quite simple things to do or someone knows very little of what their talking about, changing a rear sub-frame comes to mind (and dont even get me started on "RSP alloys" or the "mini Mayfair HLE limited edition" )

so i have found the mini magazine article on the injection to carb conversion.
like i said, I'm no expert, but the comment "i was surprised how easy it was to do and how few extra parts you need to make the change over" is in the introduction :ermm:

They didn't state how they got on with the emission's test during the MOT though...

However, if you can prove the age of your engine, the emissions test should be based on that, not the age of the car.

well think there must be another guide somewhere as this one doesn't mention much about the ECU. I'm sure i read that its kept in place to control the ignition.

yes there is much more to say on this subject but i was getting tired of the same old answers to the problem. hopefully this will move things on a step ???

you still havent said why you want to change to a carb. are you having problems with the injection? or do you think you will get more power with a carb(i doubt it)?

I put a Swiftune 1380 in my SPi Cooper a few years ago. Basically I replaced the tank with a carb tank and a facet pump. Since the engine came with a dizzy I just wired in a ignition live to the coil. I left the ECU in place and since the car still used the SPi gearbox & lighten fly I kept the crank sensor in place (not sure if it makes any difference if you are running a mechanical dizzy). The only actual wiring mod I made was to cut the wire going to the temp guage and extend it round to the head to pick up from the sensor.

It was a very simple job.
